The Green Parties of the UK have seen huge growth over the past few months following the independence referendum and being excluded from the TV debates.

Membership of the Green Party of England & Wales last night hit 25,000, after growing by a rate of over 1,000 per week during the past month.

This brings the combined Scottish Green Party and E&W membership to 33,000 – rapidly catching up with UKIP’s 40,000 members (a figure which unlike ours includes Northern Ireland), and indeed the Liberal Democrats.

Green Party Executive member Derek Wall tweeted:

The growth in E&W membership follows the surge in coverage following being excluded from the General Election TV debates.

At this rate the Greens could catch up with UKIP over the next two months.

The #GreenSurge appears to be holding no signs of slowing down – with Greens at their highest ever polling levels, will the media now listen up and #InviteTheGreens to the TV debates?
