Siân Berry Green Party leader

Membership of the Green Party of England and Wales today hit 50,000. The party has seen rapid, continuous growth since the local elections held in May. And it marks the highest number of members in the party since the ‘Green Surge’ in 2015.

Announcing the membership figures, party co-leader Jonathan Bartley described this as “truly amazing”:

The growth in membership comes off the back of an unprecedented year for the Greens. In May, the party doubled its number of councillors, and achieved its best ever European election results, winning seven seats in the European Parliament.
