With the General Election campaign now fully underway, the Green Party of England and Wales will today launch its manifesto with a set of 10 radical proposals. The party will announce 10 pieces of legislation to at the manifesto launch in south west London.

The party is setting out the bills Green MPs will push for in the first two years of a new parliament. They focus on plans to tackle climate change, rejuvenate public services and deliver constitutional reform. A Green New Deal is central to the proposals, with the manifesto launch coming a week after the Greens committed to spend £100bn per year on climate action at their election campaign launch.

The full list of Bills the Greens will pledge to put forward in the next Parliament are:

  1. Green New Deal Bill – seeking to reduce emissions to net zero by 2030.
  2. People’s Vote Bill – to deliver a second referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union.
  3. NHS Reinstatement Bill – reversing NHS privatisation, scrapping the 2012 Health and Social Care Act and increasing funding for the NHS by at least £6 billion per year until 2030.
  4. Further and Higher Education Bill – scrapping undergraduate tuition fees.
  5. Sustainable Economy Bill – setting binding targets on economic impact on the environment.
  6. Future Generations Bill – requiring public bodies to balance the needs of the present with the needs of the future.
  7. Universal Basic Income Bill – to introduce a Universal Basic Income of £89 per week for all by 2025.
  8. New Homes Bill – creating a legislative framework for building 100,000 new zero carbon homes for social rent each year.
  9. Renters’ Rights Bill – making housing more secure and bringing rent levels down.
  10. Voting Reform Bill – to replace the first past the post voting system with proportional representation, introducing a fully elected House of Lords, and extending the vote to 16 and 17 year old.

Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, will say:

Today, we’re proud to put forward a manifesto which puts us on track to remain in the European Union and make the whole country carbon neutral by 2030, while delivering social justice across Britain.

And it’s the most ambitious Green New Deal proposed anywhere in the world.

While the other parties are trying to catch up, we’re still racing ahead, reaching new horizons.

Sian Berry, co-leader of The Green Party, will say:

The Greens are clear about which path we must take as a country. And that’s why each and every Green MP elected this December will have in their in-tray a legislative agenda ready to go.

Ten Bills ready for the next Parliament to hit the ground running. Because the future won’t give us another chance to get these next two years right.
