Carla Denyer to deliver major speech on the future of British democracy
Green Party of England and Wales co-leader Carla Denyer is set to deliver a major speech on what the future of British democracy should look like. She’ll be speaking at an event at the Tesla Room, Broadway House in London on May 17, hosted by democratic reform groups Unlock Democracy, Make Votes Matter and Open Britain.
Denyer is expected to tell attendees at the event: “Of course there are politicians who are honest, honourable and go into parliament with the best intentions – the trouble is that our political system is so broken that it breeds governments like this, where MPs feel they can do whatever they want.
“The solutions are there. We don’t have to start from a blank page. Many countries in Europe are kilometres ahead of us on democratic reform. A better politics is possible, and as a Green I am committed to making it happen.”
Tom Brake, the director of Unlock Democracy told Bright Green: “Following the strong showing of the Green Party in the Council elections, we look forward to hearing from Carla, how she and her new colleagues can help overhaul our political system and give us a democracy we can all be proud of.”
