All four Green MPs sign EDM supporting trans community
All four Green Party MPs have signed an Early Day Motion (EDM) in parliament which calls for the elimination of discrimination against trans people. They’re among 28 MPs who have signed the EDM.
Starting by stating that “transition liberates trans people to be their true selves”, it goes on to criticise the media and anti-trans campaigners for attempts to ‘oppose acceptance of trans people in society’ and engage in ‘baseless fearmongering’ which suggests ‘trans people represent a risk to others’.
The EDM goes on to declare support for ‘inclusive language for trans and non-binary people’. It then concludes by calling for ‘the Government to perform its statutory public sector equality duty to trans people, by eliminating discrimination against them, advancing equality of opportunity for them, and fostering good relations between trans and cis people.’
The EDM was tabled by Green MP Sian Berry.
