Rachel Millward announces Green Party deputy leadership bid
It’s a crowded field in this year’s election for the deputy leadership of the Green Party. Yesterday (June 11), another candidate threw their hat into the ring, as Rachel Millward announced she’s standing for the role.
Millward is currently the co-leader of Wealden District Council. Since taking on that role, she’s developed a reputation as an effective media performer, being a regular guest on regional BBC political programming.
Announcing her candidacy on X, Millward said: “Two party politics is crumbling. There’s no time to waste.
“So I’m standing for Deputy Leader of @TheGreenParty. I’ll empower new leaders from all backgrounds & ensure we cut through in media like never before.
“Hope Can Win.”
Millward also launched a campaign website, on which she said: “As co-leader of a district council, I’ve confronted the housing crisis, crumbling public services, water privatisation, scapegoating of immigrants, and Reform’s lies.”
Also on her website, Millward said that if elected she would seek to ‘make sure we cut through in the media like never before’, support fundraising efforts, and prioritise getting media training for people throughout the party.
Millward is the fifth candidate to announce for the deputy leadership election.
The other candidates thus far announced are:
- Thomas Daw
- Antoinette Fernandez
- Mothin Ali
- Ani Townsend
