Ani Townsend

I know how important it is for our political leaders to reflect the communities they represent, to listen, to understand different experiences, and to build an inclusive movement where everyone feels valued.

Ani brings this kind of leadership. Ani cares deeply about making the Green Party more inclusive and more connected to local communities. Ani understands that no two communities are the same, that some of us arrive here with advantages, and others, like myself, come from war zones and have to build new lives in the UK.

There are times when I do not always agree with decisions made within the Bristol Green Party. However, I have always had the space to speak openly with Ani and seek their support. Ani has never made me feel that I am the problem for holding a different perspective. Quite the opposite – Ani understands that difference is not something to be ashamed of; it is something to be valued. It is a great strength to have someone in leadership who will never judge you for having different views, and who always welcomes open dialogue and diverse opinions.

Ani is a leader who is not afraid to speak up for what they believe in, and works hard to make space for everyone to be heard, especially those whose voices are too often overlooked. Even when Ani and I have not always agreed, Ani has always treated me with respect and ensured that I had the space to share my views and raise concerns on behalf of my community.

As a Black woman, and an immigrant, I know first hand how challenging it can be to engage in political spaces where you do not always feel represented. Ani’s leadership style is exactly what we need: someone who understands the importance of inclusive politics and open dialogue, and who works tirelessly to strengthen relationships across all parts of our party and our communities.

For these reasons, I will proudly vote for Ani Townsend to be the next Deputy Leader of the Green Party.
