Dick of the year: everyone who voted Lib Dem
This is a nomination for Dick of the year from Kevin Smith
The 23% that voted Liberal Democrat at the General Election. You should have seen the writing on the wall. At local level, it is clear
that Lib Dems have always said anything to win votes whether or not they could deliver. In fact, even if it did not adhere to their national policies. How the Lib Dems are now behaving within the coalition is what they always do – change their minds at the drop of a hat. Most of the public know what they will get with the Tories – deceit and unfairness. Now, hopefully, they will know what to expect from the Lib Dems – wishy washy policies and no morals.
Nice so that’s the Greens attacking the second Greenest party, why not attack your real enemies and stop being so vitriolic.
1. We (our proposers who are not all Greens or regular contributors) attacked a lot of people, from all different parts of the political spectrum.
2. It was a bit of fun, if you don’t like it you don’t have to read it and it didn’t take us that long.
3. We will, indeed, continue to attack anyone we consider our real enemies.
4. In what way are the Lib Dems Green? Raising fees isn’t Green, selling our forests isn’t Green, attacking welfare isn’t Green, cutting social housing isn’t Green, raising VAT and cutting corporation tax isn’t Green. I don’t think you know what that word means and considering the scale of the Lib Dem sellout I think we’re entirely justified in being a little vitriolic.
Seems so wrong to honour the schmucks who bought the snake oil above any of the quacks who convinced them it was good. Oh well, divide and rule always works best for our masters, more so when we willingly do it for them.
Also… why not “Everyone who voted Conservative?”… at least they could be sure what callous bastards they were getting.
I voted Lib Dem as there was no Green candidate in my constituency.
I was never going to vote Conservative or Labour.
I don’t think I deserve to be “dick of the year” because Labour and Conservatives offered nothing either unless this is extended to “everyone who vote LibLabCon”.
“I think some potential Green Party supporters who voted Lib Dem might be put off by this type of insult.” Quite!
Are the Lib Dem councillors who have joined the Greens since May ‘dicks’? Are the Green Party voters who voted Lib Dem in the absence of a Green candidate ‘dicks’? Were the people of Ireland who voted Green ‘dicks’ ?
I know it’s all a bit of fun now, but come April Lib Dem canvassers will be confronted with a former Lib Dem voters considering switching to the Green Party. I can imagine what they will now say.
I’m not sure I’d agree with this. Firstly I don’t think people who believe politicians promises are dicks, naive perhaps but not dicks. Secondly as a member of the Green Party I think some potential Green Party supporters who voted Lib Dem might be put off by this type of insult.
I can understand the frustration with people who seem so easily duped but I think we all want to have something where there is something to believe which makes it all too easy for LibDems to suck people in.
Kevin
Yes, some of them have been!
Thanks for the feedback Luke – it’ll be over soon, then normal service will resume – I don’t think we were expecting quote so many nominations – any many of them have been properly hilarious…
Hm. Not really feeling it, to be honest, this ‘dick of the year’ stuff. Having about 20 posts called ‘dick of the year’ in my rss feed in one day is a bit tiresome- although I’m sure many of them are. Could you not combine them all in one post?
Liking the rest of the blog though!- and looking forward for this wee bit of seasonal juvenilia to be over…!
