Three arrested over Lib Dem conference “traitors not welcome” banner
Three students are believed to have been arrested after dropping a banner reading “traitors not welcome – hate clegg love ncafc” from the building in which the Liberal Democrats are holding their party conference.
The students, who are supporters of the group the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts, have been told they will be held until the end of the conference, according to people familiar with the action. It is believed that they are being charged with traffic offenses. Two other protesters had their details taken by the police.
The action comes as students across the country return to campus for freshers’ weeks, and launch a fresh wave of protests against fee rises and cuts to university funding.
Please see update post on this:

Two have been released on bail, on has been remanded in custody.
@Brum Protestor – Do you know if anyone filmed this to verify if any debris fell or not? I’m wondering if something fell out of someone’s pocket (or something trivial like that) which could have given the Police a (daft IMO) reason to charge them?
WMP have a press release claiming that debris fell onto the road http://www.west-midlands.police.uk/latest-news/press-release.asp?id=2518
However, I witnessed the whole action and didn’t see anything fall from the banner, not sure what could have done.
They are expected to appear in court on Monday, so anyone still in Brum after the demo on Sunday should come down to support them / solidarity demo – I will post here as soon as I know the time & details.
