New polling has revealed why people who voted for Labour in the 2024 general election but who now say they’re backing the Greens have made the switch.

According to the poll, the most commonly given reason as to why ex-Labour voters are now voting Green is that Labour has been too right wing.

YouGov asked voters who’d previously voted Labour but now say they intend to vote Green for their three biggest reasons for this.

The top reasons given were:

  1. Labour have been too right-wing (48%)
  2. The Green Party is closer to their values (36%)
  3. Labour’s stance on Gaza (25%)
  4. Labour have broken or not delivered promises (21%)
  5. Cost of living has not improved enough (20%)
  6. Changes to disability benefits (20%)
  7. Labour’s stance on transgender rights (19%)
